Upon investigation following inquiries from media outlets such as TV3, Graphic Online, and other Ghanaian journalists, the Guinness World Records (GWR) has confirmed that the certificate presented by Chef Smith, asserting her title as the new record holder for the longest cooking marathon, is indeed fake.
GWR stated that the certificate displayed by Chef Smith during his much-publicised press conference on July 2 to tell the people of Ghana and beyond that he is the new title holder “is not our certificate.”
“The current and true record holder is: The longest cooking marathon (individual) is 119 hr 57 min 16 sec and was achieved by Alan Fisher (Ireland) in Matsue, Shimane, Japan, from 28 September to 3 October 2023.
“No, this is not true. Chef Smith does not hold the GWR title and that is not our certificate,” GWR confirmed.

Differences in certificates
Upon closer examination, it becomes apparent that there are disparities between the certificates presented by Chef Smith and those given to previous record holders.
For example, the GWR certificate awarded to Nigerian Hilda Baci lists her country instead of her nationality, as seen on Chef Smith’s certificate.
Additionally, the duration of her attempt was noted in hours and minutes, whereas Chef Smith’s certificate spelt it out in full as “hours” and “minutes”.
