Chef Smith’s infamous false certification regarding his Guinness World Record cooking marathon will linger in the public consciousness for quite some time before fading into obscurity.
Amidst the widespread coverage of his scandal across entertainment news outlets and various social media channels, a foreign television network has seized upon the story, further tarnishing Ghana’s reputation on the global stage.
Firstpost Africa detailed Chef Smith’s ambitious endeavor, cooking for an entire month before deceitfully claiming to have set a new world record.
On July 2, 2024, Chef Smith made headlines by holding a press conference where he proudly declared that he had achieved the title of the longest individual cooking marathon per Guinness World Records (GWR) guidelines.
During the event, he displayed a plaque that he asserted was sent by the record scheme’s organizers, providing evidence to support his assertion.
Nevertheless, there were doubts raised about the authenticity of his claim due to the absence of any official announcement on the GWR website.
Many Ghanaians contended that since GWR had not officially recognized this accomplishment on their platform, Chef Smith’s assertion may be unfounded.
Amidst the uproar caused by this claim, TV3 Ghana, a subsidiary of Media General, reached out to GWR to verify Chef Smith’s statement.
In a message sent directly to TV3 through X, GWR confirmed that the current record holder for the longest individual cooking session is still Alan Fisher from Ireland.
GWR clarified that Chef Smith does not possess the title of the longest cooking marathon and has not been granted any official certificate.
