Sista Afia has downplayed Chef Smith’s GWR antics in a new interview, telling popular fashion stylist and influencer Charlie Dior that there’s no issue with what he did.
She commented during the red carpet session at the recent Ghana Entertainment Awards in the US.
When asked by Charlie about individuals seeking attention in showbiz, using Chef Smith’s attention-seeking Guinness World Record attempt as an example, Sista Afia responded by saying that there’s nothing wrong with celebrities trying to do everything to remain relevant.
She mentioned that if attention-seeking is within the boundaries of showbiz, then there’s nothing wrong with it.
She stated, “If the person is seeking attention for show business, I think it makes sense. That’s why it’s called show business. You just have to know how to manoeuvre yourself.”
Sista Afia encouraged individuals to pursue what is beneficial for them, adding, “Anything good for anybody, just go ahead and do.”
WHAT HAPPENED?
On July 2, 2024, Chef Smith made headlines by holding a press conference where he proudly declared that he had achieved the title of the longest individual cooking marathon per Guinness World Records (GWR) guidelines.
During the event, he displayed a plaque that he asserted was sent by the record scheme’s organizers, providing evidence to support his assertion.
Nevertheless, there were doubts raised about the authenticity of his claim due to the absence of any official announcement on the GWR website.
Many Ghanaians contended that since GWR had not officially recognized this accomplishment on their platform, Chef Smith’s assertion may be unfounded.
Amidst the uproar caused by this claim, TV3 Ghana, a subsidiary of Media General, reached out to GWR to verify Chef Smith’s statement.
In a message sent directly to TV3 through X, GWR confirmed that the current record holder for the longest individual cooking session is still Alan Fisher from Ireland.
GWR clarified that Chef Smith does not possess the title of the longest cooking marathon and has not been granted any official certificate.
