Captain Smart Sparks Debate Over Ghana’s Military Training Standards

In a fiery broadcast on Onua TV, outspoken broadcaster Blessed Godsbrain Smart, widely known as Captain Smart, delivered a scathing critique of Ghana’s military training standards.

His comments, steeped in stark comparisons, painted a dire picture of the Ghana Armed Forces’ preparedness for modern warfare.

“Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea soldiers are not ordinary soldiers. Ghanaian soldiers are afraid of them; I am stating it plainly,” he asserted with unflinching conviction.

“If Ghanaian soldiers engage Malian soldiers in warfare, all the Ghanaian soldiers will be killed. One Malian soldier can kill 3,000 Ghanaian soldiers. I am telling you plainly.”

Captain Smart’s argument centered on the outdated training methods employed at the Achiase Jungle Warfare Training School, a key institution for Ghana’s military training.

According to him, the techniques taught there are remnants of the colonial era, insufficient for countering the highly trained guerilla forces of neighboring nations.

“Our soldiers don’t undergo proper training; they only climb trees and jump down, just jumping gutters here and there,” he said.

Drawing on widely circulated footage of soldiers from Mali and Burkina Faso, he described their resilience and advanced combat training as nearly invincible.

“You’ve seen the videos of those soldiers where machetes were put to their throats but didn’t cut them,” he remarked. “Go to Burma Camp with just one machete, and you’ll kill over 300 Ghanaian soldiers in uniform. Look, we need to speak the truth.”

The veteran broadcaster made it clear that his criticism was not aimed at disparaging the armed forces but rather at highlighting the urgent need for reform.

“Hurt me with the truth, don’t comfort me with lies,” he said, emphasizing his principle of accountability through honesty.

“Look me in the eye and tell me, ‘Captain Smart, you are fooling, so stop it.’ But don’t comfort me with lies.”
