Renowned Ghanaian reggae musician Rocky Dawuni has once again been recognized on the international stage, securing his fourth Grammy nomination for the 2025 awards.
His uplifting single “Rise” earned a nod in the Best Global Music Performance category for the prestigious award ceremony, set to air live on CBS and Paramount+ from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on February 2, 2025.

Joining Dawuni in the Best Global Music Performance category are notable artists such as Angélique Kidjo, Arooj Aftab, Jacob Collier featuring Anoushka Shankar & Varijashree Venugopal, Masa Takumi featuring Ron Korb, Noshir Mody & Dale Edward Chung, and Sheila E.
This nomination marks another significant milestone in Dawuni’s illustrious career, further solidifying his influence in the global music scene.
Despite his prior nominations in 2015 and 2021, Dawuni has yet to secure a Grammy win, making this year’s nomination all the more crucial for both him and his home country of Ghana.
The loss earlier in February at the 65th Grammy Awards, where Wouter Kellerman, Zakes Bantwini, and Nomcebo Zikode’s “Bayethe” won the Best Global Performance award, was a disappointment for many Ghanaians who had high hopes for Dawuni’s victory.
The competition included acclaimed artists like Arooj Aftab and Anoushka Shankar with “Udhero Na,” Matt B and Eddy Kenzo with “Gimme Love,” and Burna Boy’s “Last Last,” showcased the fierce rivalry in this category.
Ghanaian artists have historically struggled to break through on the Grammy stage, with Dawuni being a notable exception.
This nomination is particularly significant as it brings hope that Dawuni might finally secure a Grammy, setting a precedent for other Ghanaian musicians.
The expectation is that with this new nomination, Dawuni will make history by becoming the first Ghanaian to win a Grammy, a feat that would inspire a new generation of Ghanaian talent.

The broader Ghanaian music scene, rich with diverse talent and unique sounds, continues to strive for international recognition.
Artists like Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, and Shatta Wale have all made significant strides globally but have yet to receive Grammy nominations. Dawuni’s ongoing journey underscores the challenges and aspirations of Ghanaian artists aiming for the pinnacle of music awards.
Rocky Dawuni’s nomination is not just a personal milestone but a beacon of hope for Ghana’s music industry.
