Burna Boy’s newest track, Higher, has broken records as the most streamed African song in a single day on Spotify.
The song garnered an impressive 1.31 million streams on its first day of release, solidifying Burna Boy’s position as a top artist.
The music video for Higher was recently released in Port Harcourt, Burna Boy’s hometown, adding to the song’s success.
This anthem of resilience and hope was officially launched on June 28, 2024, and was announced through a series of posts on Burna Boy’s social media handles.
The single is part of his latest project, titled “Project Protect,” in partnership with the charity organisation The R.E.A.C.H.
Spotify is one of the largest music streaming service providers, with over 615 million monthly active users, including 239 million paying subscribers, as of March 2024.
Burna Boy’s album Love, Damini, his sixth studio album, was released in 2022 and made history as the highest debut of a Nigerian album on the Billboard 200 chart.
It also achieved the highest chart position for an African album in France, the Netherlands, and the UK.
In recognition of his musical accomplishments, Burna Boy was honored with the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic plaque in October.
Rolling Stone magazine included him at number 197 on their list of the 200 greatest singers of all time in 2023.
Additionally, Burna Boy secured his fourth Best International Act at the BET Awards in 2023. He also clinched The Headies Afrobeats Single of the Year award and the Song of the Year for “Last Last”.
