Reggae/Dancehall specialist, Ras Kuuku has respectfully requested Charterhouse, the organizers of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs), to reconsider their decision and include Shatta Wale in the award scheme.
In his words, despite any grievances that Charterhouse may have with Shatta Wale, Kuuku believes that forgiveness should be extended to him, as he is an integral part of the Ghanaian music industry.
Kuuku further emphasized on Property FM that Shatta Wale’s presence at the award ceremony would greatly enhance its significance, as he embodies the essence of music wherever he goes and possesses a tremendous influence.
“They have to allow Shatta Wale to join the TGMA because you know we are all in the industry and everywhere he goes he represents the country.
“It is Ghana Music Awards and so if he has even offended them they should ignore it and allow him to be part because we are all doing it to make Ghanaians happy.
“If he were to be around on the day of the event, it would have been fine because all of us were there to do it in the name of Ghana as artistes from the country,” he told the host Amansan Krakye during the interview.
Shatta Wale made the decision to disassociate himself from the scheme following his altercation with Stonebwoy during the 2019 edition of the event.
Recall the ceremony infamously ended abruptly due to a physical altercation involving a gun display from Stonebwoy which ultimately attracted significant attention from local and international media.
The rivalry between Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale escalated dramatically as Stonebwoy boldly brandished a gun, warning anyone who approached him on stage after Wale and his group surrounded him.
This incident occurred after Stonebwoy won the Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year award for an impressive fifth consecutive time.
During the award ceremony, Stonebwoy was receiving his well-deserved recognition when suddenly, his rival Shatta Wale and his entourage stormed onto the stage without any clear motive.
Recognizing the potential threat, Stonebwoy, who had possibly anticipated such a situation and was prepared, swiftly drew out a gun, causing chaos to erupt within the auditorium as startled guests scattered in every direction.
Consequently, both artists were banned from participating in subsequent editions after the occurrence until the ban was eventually lifted several months afterwards.
Stonebwoy acknowledged their reinstatement and proceeded to submit his songs for nomination, whereas Shatta Wale decided to disassociate himself from the scheme.
