Renowned Nollywood actor and film director Obinna Nwafor, also known as Saint Obi, has passed away after battling an undisclosed illness.

The actor passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at the age of 57 at his sister’s house in Jos, the capital city of Plateau State, Nigeria. Some of his colleagues have remained silent about Obi’s passing for reasons that remain unclear.

However, it is believed that this silence comes from the family’s wish to keep the news of his passing private for the time being.

There has been no official announcement from the Actors Guild of Nigeria at the moment, allegedly because of some disagreements within the family.

The actor has reportedly moved to Jos, the capital of Plateau State, for additional treatment of an illness that has kept him in and out of the hospital for over two years.

Before his death on Sunday, Mr. Nwafor had reportedly spent months in and out of the hospital for treatment of an unknown illness.

His body was reportedly taken to the mortuary at Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) on Monday.

He is survived by his wife, Lydia Saint-Nwafor, and three kids.

Saint Obi started acting in 1996, when he did an advertisement for Peugeot on NTA. He went on to appear in over 100 movies, including “Sakobi,” “Festival of Fire,” “State of Emergency,” and other popular movies.

May his soul rest in peace.
