Boston Declares March 2nd as ‘Burna Boy Day’ in Honour of Afrobeats Star

Global music icon Burna Boy has received prestigious recognition from the City of Boston, Massachusetts, as March 2nd is officially declared “Burna Boy Day.”

The historic proclamation celebrates the Nigerian artist’s impact on global music and culture.

Burna Boy expressed his gratitude on social media, “I feel incredibly honoured and privileged! Thank you, Boston! The goal has always been the same, to bring the world together. We are all so different but all the same! 2nd of March a.k.a Burna Boy Day.”

The Boston City Council, in its official press release, highlighted Burna Boy’s dedication to embracing his Nigerian and African identity while fusing it with contemporary sounds.

They commended his role in challenging stereotypes about African artistry and creating opportunities for aspiring musicians from similar backgrounds.

“Boston’s commitment to recognizing and celebrating culture and diversity is evident in the range of cultural events, festivals, and community initiatives that showcase the city’s multicultural landscape; and Burna Boy’s legacy serves as a reminder of possibility, reminding us to continue amplifying voices that have long been silenced or overlooked,” the statement read.

The proclamation marks a significant moment in Burna Boy’s career, solidifying his status as not just a musical powerhouse but a global cultural ambassador.
