As the anticipation builds for the 67th Grammy Awards, Ghanaian artist and radio presenter Blakk Rasta is making headlines with his album Salaga Soljah, which he has submitted for consideration in the Best Reggae Album category.

What sets this submission apart is that it stands as the only African reggae album competing among more than 75 eligible entries, a remarkable achievement that highlights the rich tapestry of reggae music on the continent.

The Best Reggae Album category is a prestigious recognition within the Grammy framework, honoring excellence in various forms of reggae music, including roots reggae, dancehall, and ska.

To qualify, an album must contain over 75% new reggae recordings, and it is an honor that many esteemed artists aspire to.

This year, Salaga Soljah finds itself in esteemed company, with contenders including international reggae giants such as Vybz Kartel, The Wailers, UB40, and numerous compilations that celebrate the genre.

About Salaga Soljah

Salaga Soljah is a live album featuring twenty tracks performed in a delightful mix of languages: English, French, and several African languages, including Dioula, Dagbani, Hausa, Sissala, Akan, and Gruni.

This linguistic diversity reflects Blakk Rasta’s commitment to showcasing African culture through his music.

The album is not just a celebration of reggae; it is a fusion of international influences and African heritage, marked by collaborations with notable reggae artists like Anthony B, Tiken Jah Fakoly, and King Ayisoba.

Blakk Rasta’s optimism for a nomination or potential win is grounded in a desire to elevate reggae’s status in Africa and honor the legacy of reggae pioneers such as Bob Marley and The Wailers.

He believes that recognition at such a high level would not only celebrate his work but also shed light on the broader impact of reggae music on the African continent.
