Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles filed for divorce from her husband, actor Richard Lawson, on Wednesday, 2023.
According to divorce papers obtained by PEOPLE, Knowles-Lawson, 69, states that the couple separated on Tuesday and that Knowles-Lawson filed for divorce on Wednesday due to irreconcilable differences.
The fashion designer has requested that the court no longer have the authority to award spousal support to either herself or Lawson (now 76), and she has also requested that her birth name of Celestine Knowles be reinstated.
They were married for eight years after getting married onboard a yacht off Newport Beach, California, on April 12, 2015. Both Knowles and Lawson had previously been married before they started dating in 2013.
After more than three decades together, Knowles-Lawson and her ex-husband, Beyonce and Solange Knowles’ father and former manager Mathew Knowles, divorced in 2009. In 2011, they finalised their divorce.
The designer made an appearance on the Tamron Hall Show last April and discussed their relationship. “I’ve known Richard for 40 years, and when we reconnected, it was just, I felt like, a gift from God,” she said. “I really mean that because I prayed. After I went through a divorce, it was pretty devastating after 33 years, and I always planned on, if it was in God’s plan, to get married again because I like being married. I like being in a relationship,” she stated.
