Ghanaian music producer Beatz Vampire has made bold claims about the lyrical prowess of rising star Olivetheboy, stating, “Currently, there is no artiste in Ghana with better writing skills than Olivetheboy.”
In an interview on YFM, he emphasized that the only artists who could rival Olivetheboy in terms of songwriting are Akwaboah and Kofi Kinaata, suggesting that most others in the industry focus solely on “singing vibes” without the depth of lyricism.
Olivetheboy, who has been gaining traction in the Ghanaian music scene, is known for his unique blend of Afrobeat and highlife, combined with lyrics that often reflect personal experiences and societal issues.
Akwaboah and Kinaata, both established artists, are also celebrated for their songwriting capabilities.
Akwaboah’s smooth delivery and Kinaata’s storytelling ability have earned them acclaim, but Beatz Vampire’s remarks suggest that Olivetheboy’s current trajectory may set him apart.
Olivetheboy, whose real name is Joel Ofori Bonsu, is a rising Ghanaian Afrobeats artist known for his infectious sound and catchy songs.
He gained significant attention in May 2023 with his hit single “Goodsin,” which propelled him into the spotlight and earned him the title of Ghana’s hottest artist that year.
In August 2023, Olivetheboy signed a major record deal with Sony Music’s Columbia Records, a significant milestone for any artist and one of the largest deals in Ghanaian music history.
This partnership is set to boost his international presence, as the label will handle the licensing, promotion, and distribution of his music. Notably, he’s only the second Ghanaian artist signed by Sony/Columbia, following Gyakie in 2021
