DJ Azonto has stated that if he receives any performance opportunity from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), he would need to obtain permission from Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia before accepting the engagement.
In a recent interview on Hitz FM, DJ Azonto emphasized that it was Dr Bawumia and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who initially provided him with the opportunity to perform on a political platform, highlighting the benefits that have followed since that first chance.
Consequently, he expressed that while he would consider other offers, particularly from the NDC, he would require prior approval from Bawumia.
“If NDC calls me for performance, why not? I will ask for permission from the Vice President that Daddy you invited me first. Thank you. You showed me the way. You know that just one performance can give you a hundred performances.
Mercury, I hope you know because just performing for President Bawumia has allowed me to get Hitz FM airtime at this crucial time, thank you,” he said during the interview on Hitz FM.
Interestingly, the Fa Ne Fom hitmaker was in the news recently when he threatened a lawsuit against Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for unauthorized use of his song during a political rally.
This was after Dr Bawumia was captured in a viral video campaigning in various parts of the country with the song.
In a press release dated May 16, 2024, DJ Azonto stated that he was not approached for permission before the song was used at the campaign event.
As a result, he said he wanted $10 million in compensation. The musician argued that failure to pay would demonstrate a lack of respect for intellectual property rights.
