The dust may have settled on the 2024 elections, but discussions surrounding the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) loss remain a hot topic.
In a recent interview on Nhyira FM, former Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu set the record straight on allegations that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s ethnicity and religious background played a role in the party’s defeat.
“From the post-election research in the Ashanti Region, that is one out of 16 regions in the country, the respondents did not have any problem with Bawumia’s candidacy.
“They did not have a problem with his religion or ethnicity.

“They rather affirmed the hard work he put in the campaign,” Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu stated, emphasizing that the party’s loss had nothing to do with Bawumia’s background.
He further dismissed the notion that the NPP’s flagbearer was the reason for their electoral downfall, stating, “I can firmly state that it was not because of Bawumia that the NPP lost the election.”
His comments come in response to growing narratives suggesting that Ghana’s political landscape remains heavily influenced by tribal and religious considerations.
