Baba Sadiq, the National Democratic Congress’ parliamentary candidate for Okaikoi Central has clarified that the widely circulated photo of him pounding fufu was not intended as a political stunt, as some have suggested.
He emphasized that his action was a genuine effort to engage with his constituents, stemming from a sense of familiarity.
According to him, a candidate seeking votes often visits homes to connect with the community and build rapport. According to him, when visiting a home and witnessing someone preparing fufu, it is natural to offer assistance.
He intended to foster connection rather than to gain anything specific. He discussed this matter during an interview on Hitz FM on August 7, 2024.
“Sometimes, when you go from house to house, you meet them. It’s just familiarity. You go to their house, you see her pounding, and you decide to help her. It was to attract anything.
“And then, our photographers will take pictures, and sometimes these things will end up on social media. And people would have their opinions,” Sadiq stated.
Nevertheless, despite the unfavourable remarks circulating on social media, Baba Sadiq expressed that he remains unfazed, asserting.
“It was funny. When you’re a politician and you know the realities, some of these comments don’t get to you. You just laugh about it and move on,” he said.
