Leadership roles often demand foresight, resilience, and a deep understanding of the political terrain.
For Bawku Central MP and newly appointed Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, his path to leading Parliament’s majority caucus began long before the dust of the 2024 elections had settled.
In an exclusive interview on The Point of View with Bernard Avle on Channel One TV, Mahama Ayariga opened up about his unexpected journey to the highly coveted role. “I was approached to lead the majority caucus while I was still actively working with the then-minority caucus. This was during a period when we were providing strong opposition to the Akufo-Addo administration,” he disclosed.

This revelation offers a glimpse into the trust and recognition that Ayariga garnered while serving in the minority caucus. His assertiveness in scrutinizing government policies and his unwavering stance on critical issues likely cemented his reputation as a capable leader.
“The discussions about my suitability for the role had been ongoing for some time, and it was an honor to be considered for such a significant position,” Ayariga said, underscoring the weight of the decision.
Ayariaga’s journey highlights the often-overlooked groundwork that politicians lay behind the scenes.
As a key player in the minority caucus, he consistently voiced the concerns of Ghanaians, holding the government accountable for its actions.
This dedication did not go unnoticed, with party leaders identifying him as a strong candidate to guide the majority caucus through an evolving political landscape.
He recounted how, even before the elections, conversations had already begun. “To tell you the truth, towards the end, there were approaches made to me to consider leading the majority caucus after the 2024 general elections. [This was] before the elections,” he revealed.
