Actor Awilo Sharp-Sharp, whose real name is Victor Osuagwu, has responded to criticisms from Ghanaians regarding Lilwin’s decision to include Nigerian actors in his movie project titled A Country Called Ghana.
He defended Lilwin’s choice by emphasizing the importance of understanding the storyline and context of the movie before passing judgment. According to him, a deeper comprehension of the narrative will provide a clearer insight into why collaboration with Nigerian actors was necessary.
“The criticism that was coming, we know the story, and we know the reason why the executive producer told us to come and work. People have refused to read the line and are just throwing in what they think. In a situation where social media has taken over it is bound to happen,” he said.
Awilo Sharp Sharp mentioned that he sees the criticism as a hidden blessing, as it has generated a lot of anticipation for the movie.
“The criticism is just giving free advert and publicity,” he said.
Meanwhile, in a previous interview, Lilwin responded to the concerns raised about his decision to include Nigerian actors namely Ramsey Nouah, Victor Osuagwu, and Charles Awurum in his movie project in an interview on Power FM.
Lilwin explained that he wants his movies to have a global appeal, which is why he chose not to limit himself to Ghanaian actors and actresses. The comic actor expressed his confusion over why Ghanaians would question his decision to feature Nigerian stars as if it were a wrongdoing.
To support his argument, Kwadwo Nkansah Lilwin mentioned that in his previous films, such as Cocoa Season and Papa No he had featured numerous Ghanaian actors and actresses, but the movies did not achieve the level of success he had hoped for.
He further emphasized that featuring international stars is a common practice in American movies, where Chinese and Indian actors are often included to cater to a global audience.
“People are questioning why I involved Nigerian artists, but the truth is without international stars it will be difficult for the movie to thrive.
Even American movies sometimes, feature Chinese and Indian movie stars. So why are people complaining because I featured Nigerian artists in my movie?”, he said.
