Singer Kwabena Kwabena has explained why he decided to stay away from any award ceremonies in Ghana, specifically mentioning the prominent Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs).
During an interview on Hitz FM, Kwabena Kwabena expressed his belief that awards tend to create unnecessary tensions and controversies rather than promoting unity within the music industry.
He held that he would only consider being part of award schemes that are more structured and inclusive in recognizing artistic accomplishments.
Additionally, Kwabena Kwabena criticized the tendency for awards to become personalized, resulting in conflicts and disagreements among artists.
“I wish it can be structured in a way that even when you are nominated, you will feel good,” he said while acknowledging the value of recognition for one’s work.
Kwabena Kwabena further stated the importance of an award scheme that promotes unity and mutual appreciation among artists.
