In a move that has sent shockwaves through the Nigerian music scene and dominated entertainment news, veteran rapper Olamide has dropped a surprise new EP titled “Ikigai / 生き甲斐, Vol. 1.”
The 7-track project, which was released on June 26, 2024, marks a significant moment in Olamide’s illustrious career. The title “Ikigai,” a Japanese concept meaning “a reason for being,” suggests that the EP is a platform for the artiste to explore his purpose and self-discovery.
The YBNL label boss, known for his versatility and ability to blend various genres, has once again showcased his musical prowess on this new release. The EP features a diverse range of sounds, seamlessly blending elements of Afrobeats, rap, and soulful melodies to create a captivating listening experience.
One of the standout collaborations on the EP is “Uptown Disco,” which features Olamide’s YBNL label signees Asake and Fireboy DML.
Another highlight is the track “Synchro System,” which sees Olamide reuniting with his former YBNL label mates Pheelz, Young Jonn, and Lil Kesh.
