Revered radio personality and successful entrepreneur, Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD), has recently addressed criticism from a few social media users after publicly declaring his support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Darko emphasized that at his stage in life, he is entitled to choose his political affiliation, confidently asserting that he is unfazed by any negative comments regarding his decision.
He stressed that he is mature enough to make his own choices, including his political opinions, and expressed his frustration at the idea that others want to influence his political beliefs.
“Some people will get distant as “FRIENDS” because you have chosen a side to support politically. Meanwhile, you stayed their friends when they made their political choice.
“At my age, you want to determine my views and beliefs? Eeeeish! You no dey respect like that? Even my family members have different political views, so really…
“Note: they were NEVER your friends in the first place. Tell them to F! Off,” he said.
He pointed out that during his time with the NPP, he respected his friends’ political choices without interference, but now that he has switched sides, some individuals claiming to be friends have distanced themselves from him.
In September 2023, KOD announced that he was leaving the ruling NPP, to which he belongs, due to their failure to meet the expectations of Ghanaians.
He expressed his disappointment with the party and revealed his decision to support the NDC in the upcoming 2024 elections.
Previously, KOD had shown his support for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during their campaigns in 2007 and 2015 leading up to the general elections in those years.
During the ‘Big Interview’ segment on Joy Prime’s morning show with host Roselyn Felli, KOD openly criticized the NPP for not fulfilling their promises, leading to his shift in allegiance to the NDC.
