Ashis has shared an account of how certain dishonest individuals misappropriated funds intended for Kwabena Kwabena, distributing the money among themselves after the singer’s involvement with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and his creation of campaign songs for them.
Nana Poku Ashis, known as Ashis and serving as the singer’s manager, made this disclosure to highlight the precarious nature of political dealings, which may explain why the Highlife artist has distanced himself from the NPP.
He revealed that after Kwabena Kwabena wrote a campaign song for the NPP in 2016, he assumed it was a pro bono effort. In contrast, the party’s leaders believed they had compensated him through various intermediaries.
“Some people charged on his head. Some of his friends that led him to go and meet the party leadership, charged on his head.
“So, the party knows that they’ve given Kwabena something through somebody. Where the money dey? He never got the money,” he stated in an interview with Joy Prime.
Continuing his account, he mentioned that when Kwabena Kwabena subsequently reached out to the party to request the payment, he was informed that the funds had been officially disbursed and was presented with documentation to substantiate the claim.
In February of this year, Kwabena Kwabena announced his decision to distance himself from politics. During an interview on TV3’s New Day, he clearly expressed that he has no plans to support any political party or create music for political campaigns.
“I am completely out of politics. I am Ghanaian,” he affirmed.
