Entertainment pundit Arnold Asamoah Baidoo has taken a swipe at broadcaster Abeiku Santana, accusing him of misunderstanding the relevance of streaming platforms and technological advancement in Ghana’s creative industry.
In a recent discussion, Arnold criticized Abeiku’s remarks about Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s vision to enhance Ghana’s digital landscape, particularly through the introduction of a national streaming platform.
According to Arnold, Abeiku dismissed the proposal, labelling it irrelevant, and instead suggested that the introduction of a television station where viewers pay via mobile money (MoMo) would be more impactful.
“The man said there are lies surrounding the streaming platform. After that, he questioned its relevance,” Arnold recounted.
He expressed disbelief at Abeiku’s stance, pointing out the contradiction in proposing a MoMo-based TV station. “Is MoMo not digital?
Let me take the bottom-up approach like John Dumelo. In 2024, I’m not saying a TV station is not the best, but Empress, you and I know that we’ve moved on,” he stated during a televised debate.

Arnold also turned his focus to Kumawood actors who supported Abeiku’s comments. He criticized their apparent disregard for the role of technological progress in the entertainment industry.
“The same Kumawood stars who were present there and applauding are aware that the albatross on their neck is the fact that they did not catch up with technological advancement,” he said passionately.
For Arnold, Kumawood’s struggles in recent years stem largely from its inability to adapt to a rapidly changing technological landscape. He found it baffling that industry players would rally behind a vision he believes is outdated.
“Somebody is standing and promising a television station when they know that Kumawood’s failure has been their failure to catch up with technological advancement, and you’re clapping for him?” he questioned.
