Are You More Concerned About Flags Than Deformed Babies?- Efia Odo Challenges Jennifer Queen

Efia Odo has taken to her X platform to question Jennifer Queen’s priorities in light of ongoing galamsey activities in Ghana.

Responding to a video shared by UTV, in which Queen, who happens to be the Deputy Communications Director at the National Disaster Management Organization, criticized the recent Democracy Hub protests as attempts to incite chaos and fear ahead of the upcoming elections, Odo posed a provocative question.

She expressed her disbelief that Queen seemed more outraged by protesters burning flags than by the alarming consequences of galamsey, which have reportedly led to the birth of deformed babies due to environmental contamination.

Odo emphasized the severe implications of mining activities on local communities, stating, “Communities are being poisoned yet that one no dey vex you?”

Efia Odo has been vocal about her concerns regarding the recent arrests of anti-galamsey protesters in Ghana.

She criticized the government’s approach to handling dissent, suggesting that the arrests attempt to silence those advocating for environmental justice.

Odo expressed frustration over the lack of action taken against illegal mining activities, which she believes are causing significant harm to communities and the environment.

In her statements, she emphasized that the focus should be on addressing the root causes of the protests, such as the detrimental effects of galamsey, rather than targeting the protesters themselves.

Odo highlighted the irony of the government’s anger towards the demonstrators while ignoring the real issues, including the health hazards posed by mining activities and the long-term consequences for affected communities.
