Amber Heard will reprise her role as Mera in the forthcoming film “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.”
Following her highly-publicised divorce from Johnny Depp and allegations of domestic abuse, there had been rumours that her part might be cancelled or recast, however, Heard herself disputed this back in June 2022.
Warner Bros. kicked off their two-hour CinemaCon presentation on Monday with the first teaser for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which will be released on December 20 after several delays.
According to Insider, the teaser, which has not yet been released online, featured two brief glimpses of Heard’s Mera.
Mera was seen “doing battle underwater” despite having no dialogue in the trailer, and according to a separate report from The Direct, she was donning a new white suit.
“I fought really hard to stay in the movie – they didn’t want to include me in the film. I was given a script. And then given new versions of the script that had taken away scenes that had action in it, that depicted my character and another character, without giving spoilers away, two characters fighting with one another,” she said.
“They basically took a bunch out of my role. They just removed a bunch,” Heard added.
Despite the controversy, it appears Warner Bros. has decided to retain her in the role. However, it remains to be seen how much screen time she will end up receiving in the sequel, especially since she testified during her trial that a significant portion of her character was deleted.
Consequently, movie critics from JoBlo has said that Heard was barely in the trailer, making it look as if “she gets killed off somewhere in the movie.”
