The topic of cross-dressing has gained significant attention in Ghana recently, particularly following remarks from Dr. Richardson Commey Fio, the Deputy Director of the National Commission on Culture (NCC), who expressed strong opposition to the increasing trend of cross-dressing among male content creators in the country.
In a discussion on United Showbiz aired on UTV, Amanda Jissih contributed her perspective, suggesting that many individuals who cross-dress are also involved in LGBT+ practices, using cross-dressing as a façade.
Jissih elaborated that although these individuals may present themselves as cross-dressers primarily for content creation, they frequently participate in LGBT+ activities behind the scenes.
“Most of these cross-dressers are actually involved in LGBT+ practices. They are just using the cross-dressing to cover up.
“So you may see them and they are just doing it for content but they are practicing homosexuality. They are just using this content to cover up,” she said.
She made a clear distinction between cross-dressers and effeminate gay men, referred to locally as ‘Kojo Besia.’ She noted that the latter openly expresses attraction to men, while cross-dressers utilize their clothing to hide their actual sexual orientation.
“They are even different from the ‘Kojo Besia’ (Effeminate gay men), at least with them, you would know they are sexually attracted to men.
“But for the cross-dressers, most of them are not bold enough to be open about their sexuality, so they are covering the practice with the cross-dressing,” she claimed.
