The management of legendary highlife musician Amakye Dede has revealed the circumstances that led to his less-than-stellar performance at the Miklin Hotel in Kumasi on December 29, 2024.
According to the team, the veteran musician was recovering from a road accident that occurred earlier that day.
The accident happened between Apam and Winneba in the early hours of Sunday as Amakye Dede and his team were travelling from Takoradi, following a successful performance at the Takoradi City Mall, to Agona Swedru for their next show.
Their vehicle, a V8, veered off the road at approximately 1:50 AM, leaving the singer and his team shaken and in need of medical attention.
“Amakye Dede and his team were rushed to the Winneba Hospital, where they received first aid treatment from 2:00 AM to 6:00 AM,” the statement from his management explained.
Despite the strain of the ordeal, the “Iron Boy” hitmaker made his way to Kumasi later that morning to honour his commitment to fans at the Miklin Hotel.
However, the toll of the accident, combined with a temporary loss of voice, prevented him from performing as planned.
His dedicated band stepped in to deliver a memorable performance in his stead, but fans noticed his absence and raised concerns.
Addressing the disappointment, his management issued an apology. “We deeply regret the impact this has had on our cherished fans, particularly those in Kumasi.
“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding, patience, and unwavering support during this difficult time,” they said.
