All The Photos You Missed When Idris Elba Visited Asantehene And Showed Cultural Appreciation

British actor Eldris Eba assimilated the culture of the people of the Ashanti Kingdom in Ghana in a manner that has impressed a lot of people.

Recently he was in Ghana to talk to the president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over his plans to build a state-of-the-art movie studio in Ghana. Days after that, he decided to pay homage to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the occupant of the Golden Stool, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

Sunday was the first Akwasidae of the year 2023, a 40-day traditional occasion observed every six weeks in Asanteman. He wore the lovely kente robe and walked majestically, demonstrating his admiration of tradition, custom, and culture.

When it was Elba’s turn to shake the Asantehene’s hand, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s, the King stepped back a bit, bowed, and pulled his cloth aside to reveal his chest (the purpose of this gesture is to demonstrate to the King and the King guards that he had no concealed weapon to harm the King), and then extended his hand to meet the King’s.

It is only special guests, close associates and chiefs who get the opportunity to touch the King’s palms.

Born Idrissa Akuna Elba, Idris is an English actor. An alumnus of the National Youth Theatre in London, he is known for roles including Stringer Bell in the HBO series The Wire, DCI John Luther in the BBC One series Luther, and Nelson Mandela in the biographical film Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.
