During a pivotal moment in Ghana’s Parliament on Friday, January 3, 2025, Colonel Isaac Amponsah, the Aide-De-Camp (ADC) to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, collapsed, drawing widespread concern.
The incident occurred during the President’s final State of the Nation Address (SONA), an event already charged with emotions as Akufo-Addo reflected on his tenure.
A video shared by Ghanstreetjournal on Facebook showed the moment the outgoing president was delivering his address when Colonel Amponsah, standing attentively behind the President, appeared visibly unsteady before collapsing.
Some personnel quickly intervened, providing immediate care as the proceedings paused momentarily.
Colonel Amponsah, appointed as Akufo-Addo’s ADC in February 2023, has been a steadfast figure in the President’s inner circle, tasked with ensuring his personal security.
Before this role, he served as Chief Instructor at the Military Training Academy and held a position in the Defence Intelligence Unit. His distinguished career saw him promoted to the rank of Colonel before assuming his current duties.
The collapse has raised questions about the physical and mental toll associated with such high-pressure positions.
