Ailing Actress Threatens To Poison Herself Over Worsening Condition

Actress Mavis Yeboah, known in the showbiz world as Maame Gyanwaa, has threatened to kill herself due to her deteriorating eye condition.

Despite her fame and success in the Cow and Chicken TV series produced by Funny Face, she has been unable to find any help for her condition.

In an interview with celebrity blogger Zionfelix, the veteran actress revealed the challenges she has faced with her ailment, a development that has ruffled entertainment news in Ghana.

Initially, she was misdiagnosed with various conditions such as malaria and glaucoma. However, doctors eventually discovered a blood clot behind her eye, which they deemed incurable.

The burden of her condition has taken a toll on Maame Gyanwaa, especially as she lacks the financial means to cover her medical expenses.

Expressing her deep pessimism and frustration, she even mentioned the possibility of resorting to rat poison to end her suffering if she can no longer endure it.

“If I lose my sight completely, I will search for poisons used for pests and drink them. I cannot live without my eyes,” she said out of frustration.

“I have already spent over 11,000 cedis on treatment, but it’s not enough. I have lost all sight in my left eye, and my vision in the right eye is blurry. I experience frequent blackouts in that eye,” she added.

Maame Gyanwaa, in her quest for more affordable medical care, makes a monthly journey from Accra to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.

However, this comes at a significant cost, with transportation expenses amounting to as much as GH₵400 per trip.

Despite being offered treatment options abroad, doctors have ruled out surgery for her after carefully examining her medical scans.

Currently, she sustains herself through bead-making, a skill that relies on her vision. However, Maame Gyanwaa finds herself in despair as her finances continue to dwindle, and she struggles to find acting opportunities.

“I haven’t been called for any acting gigs. I’ve been surviving on my own. I appeal to people to help me in any way they can. I am quickly losing hope,” she added sadly.
