Afua Asantewaa Ends Up In Hospital Days After Sing-A-Thon Guinness World Record Attempt

Afua Asantewaa, following her remarkable attempt at breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon, has reportedly been admitted to the hospital.

As anticipated by many, the gruelling five-day endeavour without sleep, bathing, and proper nourishment took a significant toll on Afua’s well-being. Her audacious journey to surpass the previous record of 105 hours in the longest singing marathon has left her in a compromised state. This new development has augmented the aura of entertainment in Ghana.

Afua decided to halt her world record attempt after an impressive 126 hours and 52 minutes, citing health concerns.

In a recent update shared by Graphic Online, Afua revealed that her hospitalization aims to restore her sleep cycle, which was severely disrupted during the sing-a-thon. Originally scheduled from December 24 to 27, 2023, Asantewaa’s Sing-a-thon was extended to accommodate potential time deductions by Guinness World Record judges for breaks.

Furthermore, they have revealed that Afua began displaying signs of mental stress through unnecessary comments and gestures, which was anticipated medically and explained to her before the start of the competition.

Therefore, to prevent any severe health complications, the medical team insisted that she end the singathon, despite her initial plan to conclude it on Saturday or by midday Friday.

In conclusion, the team has worked to strengthen her mental resilience and expressed gratitude to the people of Ghana for their tremendous support.

“There’s only a point you can go as a person. She has done so well and we are extremely proud of her. We have gotten to the point where, as a medical team, her health is very important. At the moment, we want her to rest so she will bounce back to us,” Dr. Buckman said.
