Shatta Wale’s debut performance at Jamaica’s Freedom Street concert made waves not only in the Caribbean but across the global dancehall scene.
The concert, which celebrated Vybz Kartel’s long-awaited return to the music industry after his release from prison, brought together a star-studded lineup that included not just Jamaican legends but international icons as well.
The event, hosted in Kingston, featured prominent artists such as Spice, Popcaan, Skillibeng, Tommy Lee Sparta, Chronic Law, Rvssian, Likkle Vybz, Likkle Addi, Lisa Hyper, Gaza Indu, Sheba, Jah Vinci, and Shawn Storm, among others.
For Shatta Wale, stepping onto Jamaican soil and performing for the first time was a monumental moment in his career.

His energy on stage reflected his excitement about representing African dancehall on such a global platform. “Big up to Jamaica for the love. It’s an honour to be here with so many legends.
“I’m just here to represent African dancehall and share the love,” Shatta Wale said during his performance, visibly grateful for the opportunity to perform alongside his Caribbean counterparts.
Samini, the Ghanaian music icon and fellow dancehall artist, took to social media to share his pride in Shatta Wale’s achievement.
“For the culture and everything relevant to #dancehall and #Jamaica, I’d say I’m super proud of SM Boss @shattawalegh on your maiden performance in JA,” Samini wrote.
“You stood there in the name of African Dancehall and made every dancehall artist on the continent proud. Big up WORLDBOSS. Dancehall is GLOBAL ❤️✊🏾🇬🇭 🇯🇲.”
