In the wake of the attacks that rapper Sarkodie has received from Ghanaians since actress Yvonne Nelson revealed that he got her pregnant and asked her to abort the pregnancy in 2010, Ghanaian entertainment and social critic Kwame A Plus has come to the defence of Sarkodie.
On June 21, A Plus posted an oblique message of consolation to Sarkodie on Instagram, telling him not to worry about the criticism because Ghanaians have a tendency to forget issues quickly.
A Plus mentioned several examples of events that had widespread media coverage at the time but are now largely forgotten. He cited the fetish priestess Nana Agradaa’s imprisonment, her ex-husband’s acid threat, and the Charles Adu Boahen story as examples of topics that were popular for a while but have since faded from the public consciousness.
It was also pointed out by A Plus that the Ghanaian people are so changeable that they would even criticise Jesus Christ if he were to visit the country. A few weeks from now, he joked, “they’ll start insulting him on social media; masa fa wo Yesu Yesu no fri hɔ kɔ.”
Kwame A Plus, unconcerned by the criticism, insisted that the only people he values are the ones who accept him for who he really is. He was so unconcerned with others’ approval that he boldly said that not a single sensible person in Ghana disliked him. “Life is very simple for me ooo. I’m not here to please anyone!!”
He encouraged Sarkodie to ignore the haters and concentrate on his music career. Within two weeks, he was certain that Ghanaians would forget the current incident. His final words were an overwhelming “Tweaaa!! When dealing with these people called Ghanaians, be as hard as 4ck! They will forget!!”.
Many Ghanaians have taken to social media to vent their displeasure with Sarkodie in the wake of Yvonne Nelson’s revelations about him. However, there are many who have come to Sarkodie’s defence, stressing that this is a personal issue that only he can fix.
