Ghanaian musician and dancer, Mr. Drew, has dismissed the notion that danceable songs automatically become hits, emphasizing that the quality of a song is the most important factor in its success.
Speaking in an interview on Property FM, Mr. Drew argued that while dance challenges can contribute to a song’s popularity, they are not the sole reason a song becomes a hit.
“No, I don’t share the same opinion that danceable songs blow up so easily because, first of all, the song has to be a good song,” he stated.
He further explained that if a song lacks quality, people wouldn’t even feel motivated to dance to it in the first place. “Because if the song is not a good one, how do we even dance to it in the first place? So the first thing you have to look at is having a good song.”
To back his point, Mr. Drew cited Fameye’s hit song Very Soon, which gained massive traction despite not being accompanied by a viral dance challenge.
“A good song comes first because if the song is good, it makes everything easier, like Fameye’s song Very Soon,” he noted. “Fameye didn’t do any dance challenge, but he had one of the big songs last year, so it’s not necessarily about dance, but it’s an add-up.”
