Actress and singer Michelle Diamond Gbagonah, popularly known as Shatta Michy, has shared a piece of advice on managing public relationships and self-worth during a recent interview on Property FM.
Drawing from her own high-profile experiences, particularly her former relationship with dancehall artist Shatta Wale, Michy highlighted the challenges of keeping a relationship steady in the spotlight.

“You’ll need to be a bit discerning to be able to manage a public relationship,” she said. Michy emphasized that the responsibility to protect the relationship’s integrity lies with both partners.
“One shouldn’t be understanding while the other is listening to what people are saying,” she added, pointing to the importance of mutual trust over outside opinions.
Reflecting on her own journey, Michy noted the toll that public scrutiny can take on personal connections.
She acknowledged that while the appeal of being a public couple can be strong, the reality is complex, with everyone feeling entitled to comment on private matters.
“When it’s public, everyone can say anything about the relationship, and you have no say,” she explained, urging individuals to focus on their own sense of self rather than relying on external validation.

At the heart of Michy’s advice was a message about self-worth. “You owe yourself your own validation. A man’s validation will not change anything,” she asserted.
With this, Michy advised women, in particular, to ground their self-confidence in their personal values and strengths, rather than the opinions or approval of a partner.
