Kwadwo Duah has cited Ghanaian heritage when celebrating his debut goal at the 2024 Euros which also marked Switzerland’s first goal of the tournament.

The forward, who plays in Bulgaria, scored in Switzerland’s opening match against Hungary on June 15, a moment of pride for both himself and his family.

In an interview with the BBC, he mentioned that his Ghanaian parents were delighted to see him score for his new country.

“It was a big moment for my family and me. To score the first goal for Switzerland in a European Championship, I don’t think everyone does that, and we were all very happy.

“I was born in London but we don’t have family there anymore. My mum and dad were in Ghana but they had an opportunity to go to England because it offered a better life.”

Regrettably, Kwadwo Duah’s tournament ended when England defeated Swizelernad with a 5-4 penalty shootout win in their quarter-final match on Saturday, following a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

Breel Embolo scored the opening goal for Switzerland in the 75th minute, while Bukayo Saka equalized just five minutes later in a match that had limited scoring opportunities.

Saka, who had previously missed a crucial penalty in England’s Euro 2020 final loss to Italy, showed great composure on Saturday as he confidently converted in front of a passionate crowd of England supporters.

Duah was born in London, England, and moved to Switzerland at a young age.[8] He is of Ghanaian descent, and holds dual citizenship with Ghana and Switzerland. He is also fan of London football club Chelsea F.C.
